Overview & Structure
The Asian Animal Experience starts on the first Saturday of every month throughout the year, but alternative dates can be considered on request. You are welcome to choose the trip duration that is suitable for you, with the option to travel for 6, 9 or 12 weeks.
Should you choose the 6 week option then you will spend 2 weeks volunteering and travelling in each country; Sri Lanka, Thailand and Bali. In the same vein, if you choose the 9 week option then you will spend 3 weeks in each country and finally the 12 week option will see you spend 4 weeks in each country.
When travelling across Asia you will meet plenty of other travellers and volunteers, with the numbers and types of people you encounter changing from country to country. If you’re looking for a social experience where you’ll make lots of new friends, then this is the trip for you.
You can choose any of the volunteer programmes listed further below for each country and once you have applied we will be in touch to confirm exactly what you wish to do. Please note, some volunteer projects may be subject to availability.
Once you have signed up you will then also be able to request organised weekend trips within each country through your My Trip account. You can read all about what weekend trips are on offer and what dates they run further below within each country section.
You will be responsible for organising your flight schedules to each country and although this may seem complicated at first, rest assured we are on hand to provide all of the assistance required.
Volunteering in Sri Lanka
Your wildlife adventure will begin in Sri Lanka. With some of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes, it is the perfect place to begin your wildlife conservation journey. Not only is this your chance to learn and contribute to important wildlife conservation but also to explore everything this vibrant country has to offer.
Packed into this small island is a mix of amazing experiences. Whether you’d like to try surfing at one of the many beautiful beaches, visit some of the oldest temples in Asia or learn how tea is made in Hill Country, there really is something for everyone here. Whilst volunteering you will spend your days helping care for street dogs or contributing to the conservation of sea turtles, where you will play a vital role in their preservation.
All of our volunteering programmes are located together and are based just 10 minutes away from the famous backpacker town of Hikkaduwa. You will be living right on the beach, where you can snorkel, enjoy the spacious accommodation and experience the true way of life in Sri Lanka. You can read all about each programme that you can volunteer on by clicking on the below links.

Sri Lanka Street Dog Rescue
If you would like to spend time on both programmes, simply apply for one and let us know under the ‘Any special requirements’ box.
As well as volunteering on rewarding programmes you will also have the option to travel and explore Sri Lanka and even head over to the Maldives during your free time. You can read all about our organised weekend trips here.
Volunteering in Thailand
Your next stop will be Thailand - home to the famous Asian elephant. All over Thailand you can see elephants represented in their culture and even from the roadside as you travel around. However, humans have become a huge threat to this amazing species with many being used for manual labor or exploited through tourism. This is your chance to stand in the presence of these elephants, treating them with respect and knowing you are having a positive impact.
Alongside the elephant refuge centre is the wildlife rescue centre which aims to care for the many animals that have been exploited by humans or who have lost their homes due to deforestation. Here you will help care and protect for a huge array of incredible and exotic species as they begin their new life at the wildlife centre. This is your chance to actively contribute to an entirely ethical organization, make friends from all around the world and spend your days alongside elephants and animals.
Our elephant and wildlife programmes are based around 200km south of Bangkok, with the accommodation being based in the lush grounds of the sanctuary! The peaceful surroundings are the perfect place to enjoy some of Thailand’s natural scenery but if you did want to explore further afield there is plenty to do, including visiting the white sands of Hua Hin beaches or heading out on safari in Kaeng Krachan National Park. Our friendly local team will be sure to help you get everything arranged.

Volunteering in Bali
The last stop of your animal adventure will be Bali - one of the highlights of southeast Asia and a popular tourist destination. Although you will be based in the small Island of Bali, you will get the chance to care for animals that have been rescued from all over Indonesia on our wildlife rescue programme. This amazing opportunity will see you working alongside animals who have been rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, been kept as pets or affected by the deforestation that has occurred all over Indonesia.
Outside of volunteering, Bali is one of the best places to explore with your new found friends. With beautiful temples, stunning beaches and gorgeous scenery there is so much to see and do at weekends and evenings. You will be perfectly positioned, around an hour from Denpasar and Ubud - making it the ideal base for exploring Bali!
You will stay with other volunteers from around the world at our on-site volunteer accommodation, in the somewhat undiscovered town of Tabanan. The perfect mix of authenticity and convenience, we can’t think of a better place to be based.

You'll have long weekends to explore, whether that be heading around the main attractions or hopping aboard a boat to check out the nearby islands. One thing is for sure, they will be filled with fun adventures in the jungles, along the beaches and up the mountains with your new friends.
