My medical elective in Sri Lanka

I’ve had the time of my life volunteering in Sri Lanka throughout June. I took part in the medical programme which was very well organised and opened my eyes to the reality of the healthcare available within these communities. I definitely recommend The Mighty Roar Sri Lanka and a big thank you to Ayomi for welcoming me into her home with such care and kindness.

Teaching in Thailand

I signed up to do Teaching in Thailand, because I’ve always wanted to devote my life into something bigger than myself and I love working with kids. The TMR support team was very helpful and replied quickly to all my questions which was reassuring. What made the programme so incredible was who I met there, the other volunteers were incredibly welcoming and involved me in all their plans, when I wasn’t teaching I travelled the country. I cannot thank TMR for the opportunity it gave me so, thank you!

An incredible summer in Greece

I spent an incredible 2 weeks in Greece this summer with the aim of conserving the sea grass and sand dunes on the coast of Kefalonia! It was an experience that I’ll never forget and will likely return to in the near future. I’ve made so many friends that I’m still in touch with even though I’m back home now! Thanks so much to TMR and the local team in Greece for making my trip such a wonderful and rewarding one!

Anja's story

An eye-opening medical elective in India

For my elective I travelled to the city of Jaipur, in India. Medicine in India seemed very similar to the UK for those lucky enough to afford it, for those not so lucky the difference was emphasised in my second & third weeks. I had an incredible six weeks in India and away from the medicine also saw some incredible forts, palaces and temples. The memories from the trip will last with me forever and I am incredibly grateful for the experience I have had.

Joshua's story

Volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary in Namibia

I volunteered for 2 weeks at the Namibia wildlife sanctuary and reserve. From the very start I had great communication with the mighty roar team keeping me up to date with what was needed and answering all my queries quickly. There was over 40 plus volunteers during my stay with a range of ages and people all over the world and I thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering, with no two days being the same.

Mia's story

Helping steet dogs and sea turtles in Sri Lanka

My daughter Lizzie and I travelled to Sri Lanka in June to do the street dog programme. We have travelled a lot in the past but it was honestly one of the best trips of our lives! If you love animals, you’ll love this programme! TMR were a great support before we even arrived, they gave us all the info we needed in advance and we used the WhatsApp groups to get tips and share ideas or solve issues with our fellow volunteers too.

Julie's story

Eleven weeks helping wildlife in Thailand

I volunteered at the wildlife rescue centre and elephant sanctuary in Thailand for 11 weeks. I've made memories I'll cherish forever and friends for life. I worked 7 weeks with the wildlife, 1 week with the elephants and was lucky enough to get to work my remaining 3 weeks with the wildlife hospital in the sanctuary. The work was super rewarding and I hope to come back one day in the not too distant future!

Emma's story

Expect the unexpected teaching in India

Jaipur is the kindest and homeliest place I have ever travelled to. The city gives you so much love without expecting anything in return. I spent a total of nearly 4 weeks in Jaipur and 3 weeks volunteering and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. I spent each week in 3 different programmes –Teaching, Childcare and Special Care Needs and all of them were a completely different experience. If you’re in two minds on whether to go on this journey, do it!

Anupriya's story

Volunteering at Amakhala Game Reserve

I chose the Amakhala Big 5 programme in South Africa because it had such a large number of animals as well as some really fun ways to volunteer. The preparation for my trip was really easily made. I don’t think I could pick a favourite memory but I loved getting to know everyone else at the camp and on my last day we were given the opportunity to roll on the ground towards the giraffes and get really close which was incredible!
