Childcare volunteering in Sri Lanka
I signed up for the two-week childcare program in Sri Lanka with The Mighty Roar because my friend had participated and encouraged me to join. Initially, I was a bit nervous, as I had never considered traveling to that part of the world. However, the smooth pre-departure support quickly put me at ease. I loved helping out in the nursery, where we sang, danced, played with the children. It was so much fun and a privilege to help out in the classroom.Helping sea turtles in Sri Lanka
I signed up to the sea turtle conservation program for two weeks in Sri Lanka which was an incredible experience and was so ethical. My time in Sri Lanka was truly eye opening, being apart of local community in the village of Akurala. After a lot of research, I chose to volunteer at Amakhala for 2 weeks in January and I am SO glad I did - it was a dream trip and even better than I could have imagined! A safari in South Africa had always been a dream of mine but I'd always been worried about travelling there on my own, as well as the high costs of a traditional safari. I got to experience a safari everyday, learn so much about the animals and go behind the scenes of a private game reserve - it was amazing!Helping with marine conservation in Bali
I spent a life changing 2 weeks helping on the marine conservation programme in Bali. No day was the same, as we built artificial reef structures, cleaned beaches, scuba dived, snorkelled and travelled! If you are thinking about travelling to Bali or volunteering somewhere around the world, I would highly recommend The Mighty Roar and their projects.An incredible 2 weeks in Thailand
I signed up for 2 weeks volunteering at the Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand through the Mighty Roar. It was unlike anything I had ever done before and was the most incredible experience of my life! The support I received from the Mighty Roar was amazing, with swift replies to any questions I had whilst planning my trip and constant reassurance whenever I needed it.My medical elective in Sri Lanka
I’ve had the time of my life volunteering in Sri Lanka throughout June. I took part in the medical programme which was very well organised and opened my eyes to the reality of the healthcare available within these communities. I signed up to do Teaching in Thailand, because I’ve always wanted to devote my life into something bigger than myself and I love working with kids. The TMR support team was very helpful and replied quickly to all my questions which was reassuring. What made the programme so incredible was who I met there, the other volunteers were incredibly welcoming and involved me in all their plans, when I wasn’t teaching I travelled the country. I spent an incredible 2 weeks in Greece this summer with the aim of conserving the sea grass and sand dunes on the coast of Kefalonia! It was an experience that I’ll never forget and will likely return to in the near future. I’ve made so many friends that I’m still in touch with even though I’m back home now! For my elective I travelled to the city of Jaipur, in India. Medicine in India seemed very similar to the UK for those lucky enough to afford it, for those not so lucky the difference was emphasised in my second & third weeks. I had an incredible six weeks in India and away from the medicine also saw some incredible forts, palaces and temples. The memories from the trip will last with me forever and I am incredibly grateful for the experience I have had.
