Medical volunteer and elective programmes
Working alongside local medical professionals you will gain invaluable experience that allows you to see first hand the health care system in a developing country. Whether you are carrying out your medical elective, interested in medicine or are a qualified staff member, our diverse and unique medical experiences will see you confronting different illnesses and treatments, discovering new techniques and methods and to observe how teams work together in often resource stretched settings.
Each of our medical experience programmes encompass many key areas, with most projects being based in large government hospitals. Here you are able to gain exposure in several departments or to focus your placement within your chosen field.
We host hundreds of university students on their elective placements each and every year. Over the last few years we have built up strong relationships with many universities around the United Kingdom and abroad, with many now actively recommending us to their students. We are able to complete any paperwork required from your university and can ensure that your course requirements are met in terms of minimum hours, placement setting and more.

Medical ElectivesGain a broad perspective to medicine and healthcare in government and private hospitals, slum clinics and outreach settings. Observe qualified doctors and witness a huge range of unfamiliar cases and infectious diseases and learn about their diagnoses, management and treatment. As you shadow clinics and consultations you'll witness how a lack of funding impacts the quality of care provided and how traditional beliefs and different cultural attitudes exist around healthcare.
Nursing ElectivesExperience first-hand the challenges and major differences in the principles of nursing in a developing country. You will gain a broad overview and understanding of the care provided in all branches of nursing including adult, child and learning disabilities nursing as you observe qualified nurses in a range of clinical environments. Witness a wide range of different illnesses and further your skillset with hands-on tasks including basic health checks, cleaning wounds, checking blood pressures and more.
Midwifery ElectivesObserve qualified midwives during patient consultations on the maternity ward, witness childbirth in the delivery room, spend time in theatre and have the chance to provide postnatal care talking to mothers about family planning and birth control. This challenging yet highly rewarding experience will allow you to gain a broad overview and understanding of the care provided or to specialise in an area of interest, whether that be labour wards, pre or postnatal care or OBG.
Qualified VolunteersAre you a qualified doctor, dentist, nurse, physical therapist or other healthcare provider? If so, we need your help around the world on our medical experiences to help within government hospitals, slum clinics and community outreach projects. You'll be able to serve the community in a way that most other volunteers can't. Your time and effort will bring first-rate healthcare to people who usually don't have access and also provide much needed support to local staff in often resource stretched settings.
