Hear all about my time volunteering in hospitals and exploring Tanzania.
After lots of researching, I signed up for the medical programme in Tanzania, where I had the opportunity to work in two different hospitals and multiple different departments/wards and communities. As a student paediatric nurse the experience hugely enhanced my knowledge and understanding of healthcare in other cultures and it was the most incredible, eye-opening 4 weeks which I will remember forever.
I was initially very anxious about going away to somewhere so unfamiliar, but all the information I needed was on my pre-departure dashboard and was so organised which hugely helped me and calmed my nerves.

From the minute I arrived everyone was so lovely, I made friends for life and the staff brought a smile to my face every single day and I miss them all immensely - so much so that I am determined to go back one day to visit them!
They went out of their way to give me and all the other volunteers the best experiences, and within the first day of being there they had all made an effort to learn my name and make me feel welcome, it made the biggest difference and felt like it was home from home.
My medical experience was hugely valuable and I felt so grateful to be able to volunteer in the hospitals and help with patient care
We also had the perfect amount of free time where I visited the orphanage (which found a huge place in my heart), the hot springs, Materuni Waterfall, played football with the maasai, had an incredible weekend to Zanzibar where we swam with dolphins, bicycle rides, karaoke nights, market trips and so much more.
I left Tanzania in absolute awe of how beautiful the country is and the kindness of all the people there, I loved every minute and miss it so much. My trip has inspired me to explore other parts of the world and has left an everlasting mark on my heart as well as a family that I can’t wait to visit again one day.
