Looking to complete your medical elective in Sri Lanka? Read about my experience here.
I’ve had the time of my life volunteering in Sri Lanka throughout June. I took part in the medical programme which was very well organised and opened my eyes to the reality of the healthcare available within these communities.
"I've returned home with beautiful memories and friends for life."
The Mighty Roar were available from the moment I applied to answer any questions I had, this gave me a lot of confidence as this experience was something I was nervous about.
In country staff were very welcoming and took us to the accommodation which was clean, safe and had all necessary facilities and amenities. The house was in the perfect location on the beachfront and it was easy to find links to nearby shops, bars and restaurants.
We also took part in events held by the mighty roar such as kayaking, karaoke or surfing down in Galle. I volunteered in a very busy period, there were around 60 volunteers living in the accommodation which made it very easy to make friends- the hill country weekend trip was a great way to consolidate these friendships.
I came alone not sure what to expect and I returned home with beautiful memories and friends for life.
I definitely recommend The Mighty Roar Sri Lanka and hope that future volunteers have as positive an experience as I have had. A big thank you to Ayomi for welcoming me into her home with such care and kindness.
