Looking After The Children
Of Busua,
Ghana

I loved it so much I'm coming back next year!

I signed up for the childcare programme in Busua Ghana for two weeks and it was the best experience of my life! TMR guided me through all the things I had to do pre-departure like be fully prepared, organising visas, as well as including a packing list and other important information.

"Getting involved really helped me to meet some amazing new people with similar values to me and has given me an experience I will never forget."

When I arrived in Accra we were greeted by Dinah who was amazing, the other volunteers were delayed so we got taken to our hotel early, we were surprised at how friendly and approachable everyone was I really felt like they were there to help us. The next day we did a long drive from Accra to Busua arriving at our accommodation around 6.

Although it was simple, the accommodation was perfect for what we needed, people who didn’t want to be with others could have a double bed room or there were shared rooms of more people. I ended up choosing the biggest shared room and it was a good decision. In the room I met lots of amazing people from all different parts of the UK and some from other parts of the world, over the two weeks I was there I became so close with these girls that we decided to come back together next year and are currently planning to fly out to see each other in the new year.

During volunteering hours, we would go to the school and choose a classroom then stay with that class all day, some volunteers chose to stay with one class their whole-time volunteering, whilst others (like me) chose to move around and meet everyone. We would often help teachers mark exams after wishing the kids luck as they had end of year exams on whilst I was there, we also helped the teachers teach some lessons and played tons of games during break time!

When off volunteering there was tons to do, we did a coconut walk and went to the market with Emmanuel and we could also go surfing on the beach, play volleyball or do painting at night at Tina’s.

Getting involved really helped me to meet some amazing new people with similar values to me and has given me an experience I will never forget.
