I spent two amazing weeks in Sri Lanka and I loved every moment. I took part in the travel and volunteer programme, and did childcare as my volunteering choice whilst also being there to release some baby turtles!

During my time in Sri Lanka I was able to fully immerse in the incredible culture of the country visiting temples, seeing a local festival and witnessing traditional dances as well as visiting a tea plantation and herbal garden within the travel week. The local team made you feel welcome and were all there for any queries you had, making you feel at ease and even as we were travelling around the island Ayomi kept in touch to see how we were doing and if we were enjoying ourselves.
Karu and Santa were our tour team and they were amazing! Karu shared the history of the places we were visiting as well as pointing out different things to see on the drives. They ensured we got the best experience possible and experienced all there is to do. The local team also were there to give advice on the local area and they were always down for a game of cricket!
My time was made even better by the people I met there. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and we all got along well which made me feel more at ease as a solo traveller. We bonded more on the tour and during the activities and it was fun getting to know everyone and their future plans.
My favourite day was the baby elephant sanctuary and safari tour. It was heartwarming to see how they’re helping these animals and how happy they were there! It was also a personal favourite as it had been a childhood dream to see them in Sri Lanka. I loved the entire experience and the whole programme had more than exceeded my expectations, I truly loved every place we visited on the island.
