Hear about my time helping as a childcare volunteer in Cape Town, South Africa!
I was extremely excited to start my volunteering journey in Cape Town, South Africa! My chosen programme was at a daycare helping with children. I went everyday during the week and it was so much fun! All the children were lovely and smiley and they completely warmed my heart. I met one of the girls from my project group at the airport and got on with her and all the others so well!

When we arrived at the hostel in the observatory district, they were very accommodating and all the other volunteers were super welcoming and friendly. It was so interesting to get to know all of the girls and what they had been doing.
As we got to know each other, we made plans everyday and explored the city of Cape Town. We went up table mountain, tried some typical South African food, went on a boat ride, hiked up lion’s head, and of course got to witness the sunrise and sunset which were a big part of South African culture. It was heavenly to see all the pretty colours in the sky!
One of my most memorable moments was the Safari weekend. Me and the three other girls from my project went 2 hours out of Cape Town to the Aquila Safari reserve. It was the most beautiful experience to see these animals in the wild. I loved every minute!
People in Cape Town were so friendly and I was fascinated with what they had to talk about. The children at the daycare were also very chatty and funny and I have missed them since leaving.
Volunteering with The Mighty Roar was one of the most fulfilling and unforgettable experiences I have done and I definitely recommend something like this for people who would like to volunteer.
