Looking after animals at the
Namibia
widlife sanctuary

If you’re considering Namibia as a part of your trip, don’t think twice!

Earlier this year, my friend and I had the pleasure of spending 3 weeks at the Wildlife sanctuary in Namibia. Volunteering here involved anything from cleaning out the small animal’s enclosures, feeding the carnivores and going into the reserve next door and actually searching for Rhinos, elephants etc.

"If you’re considering Namibia as a part of your trip, don’t think twice! It really was one of the best experiences of my life that I would do over and over again."

We started every morning with a greeting from the lovely staff members where they would tell us our activities for the day, and from then on we cracked on and had a lovely social lunch to break up the day. The food was simple but delicious!

During the time we were there, an amazing opportunity popped up to help move some rhinos to different reserves around Namibia in order to increase breeding. This was something I couldn’t miss so I got stuck in and helped inject the rhinos, do measurements for them and also check their heart rate. Being this close to an animal so large and endangered was a really special moment which i will treasure forever. Being able to meet the owners truly allowed us to be able to get a real insight into the many benefits of the programmes they’ve set up and allow us to see how many local people have been helped by the amount of jobs that have been provided.

Another personal favourite of mine from this trip was a sunset horse ride through the reserve’s huge bush. We saw plenty of animals such as Zebra, Giraffe and lots of Steenbok. If you’re considering Namibia as a part of your trip, don’t think twice! It really was one of the best experiences of my life that I would do over and over again. The staff become your best friends as well as all the other volunteers whose friendships you will keep forever.

Enjoy the pictures, I hope they persuade you to go!
